"John Barry really outdid himself with this beautiful soundtrack to accompany everybody's favorite superspy, James Bond, on his latest mission. Beautiful arrangements and melodies, the music evokes so many different moods, so you know it is powerful...even though I am a big fan of all of the original James Bond movies (the ones with Sean Connery), it's funny how I remember the soundtrack to this movie better than I rememeber the actual plot! If you like this kind of music, then you should get all of the John Barry scores from all of the Bond movies, as well as picking up the Hugo Montenegro CD's (Man from U.N.C.L.E., More Music from Man from U.N.C.L.E., Come Spy With Me, Girl from U.N.C.L.E.), as well as the swingin' Count Basie CD "Basie Meets Bond"."
Film track order

"I've given the film order for some other expanded Bond CDs, but I didn't have the DVD of this film. It turns out that making a CD in the correct order is a bit difficult, as you have to slice and dice various tracks. I did it, however, and it is well worth the time invested. For a detailed (down to the second) description of the work you'll need to do, heard over to johnbarry.org.uk and check out their page on the expanded soundtracks."
John Barry creates another fantastic Bond soundtrack!

"You Only Live Twice usually appears near the top of lists of favorite Bond soundtracks. With the new remastered version of the soundtrack, theres no reason why it shouldn't. John Barry claerly had his mind made up that he was going to create a romantic masterpiece, and his result is right on the mark. Nancy Sinatra performs the wonderous and lyrical title song, which is consdiered by many to be the sweetest James Bond title song of all. Japanese local music is clearly the key element here, with many flavors of it appearing in almost every track. Some of them include Tanaka's World, Mountains And Sunsets, The Wedding and the brilliant ten minute long James Bond In Japan. One of John Barry's masterpiece tracks is the haunting and supensful Capsule In Space. There is also the fast tempoed A Drop In The Ocean and the action filled piece, Fight At Kobe Dock-Helga. Other action pieces include Countdown For Blofeld and Bond Averts World War Three. The classic "007" theme makes an appearance in track Little Nellie. Soviet Capsule is another good variation of the haunting Capsule In Space. The soundtrack ends with Twice Is The Only Way To Live, an instrumental version of the end of the film. With 19 stunning tracks and nearly 73 minutes of music, You Only Live Twice is most defenitely one of the best sources of thrilling John Barry, James Bond music!"
"Twice" as Nice This Time Around For Barry

"Yet another "Remastered," extended James Bond soundtrack from Capital/EMI/MGM, John Barry's score for "You Only Live Twice" seems to have been given a second life. Long considered one of the best of Barry's efforts in the 007 saga, "You Only Live Twice" can now be appreciated in a recording that includes nearly the entire score. Barry successfully combined lyrical, oriental, and action motifs for a solid score which should be ranked in the top four of all of the Bond soundtracks. This recording includes a good deal of the score that could not be included in the LP soundtrack in seven "bonus tracks" and some additional music to the standard cuts. This is easily one of the best of the "remastered" collection and is a must for Bond and Barry fans. Finally, one is able to fully enjoy one of Barry's best works. An extended cut, "James Bond in Japan" alone makes this whole 40th Anniversary venture worthwhile. Again, the recording is first rate, as is the packaging. And thanks again for the reasonable price! As one of the attempts at resurrecting the full scores from many of the Bond films, "You Only Live Twice" again confirms just how vital John Barry was to the entire 007 series."
Gloriously Restored 007 Soundtrack

"John Barry's score for "You Only Live Twice" represents some of his finest James Bond music. This evocative 1967 soundtrack has been gloriously restored and expanded, with most of the original score intact. "Fight At Kobe Dock," "James Bond In Japan" and the long-awaited "Little Nellie" are among the highlights. Another welcome addition to the Barry catalogue."
