These three discs devoted to Dame Myra Hess feature two complete recitals recorded at Illinois University on March 17th & 18th, 1949. They are the only live recital recordings by the pianist known to exist. Each concert featured solo works, a concerto and various encores. Since each concert was too long to fit onto a single CD, the concertos have been coupled and the solo works arranged into musical groupings. Included as a bonus are several off-air recordings taken from the Ford Sunday Evening Hour which was regularly broadcast coast to coast in the USA during the 1930s and early 1940s.
