"Those guys are a legend in their native country (Italy) and they increased their success during almost twenty years. Their life performances will remain in public's collective memories and every rock band in Italy will have to deal with some Litfiba's heritage."Terremoto" (1993, Earthquake) is Liftiba's ninth official album and the second of the sequel dedicated to the four elements, which was started in 1990 with "El Diablo" (The Devil, Element: fire). Obviously, this disc element is earth, and the title has to be referred to the political earthquake that devastated Italy in the beginning of the Nineties (almost all the former political leaders finished their careers in... jail, because of corruption and other crimes)."Terremoto" has a strong sound, made of electric guitars and devilish drums. Lyrics are often very political, like in "Dimmi il nome" (Tell me the name) about the need to speak out loud names of people connected to mafia; "Maudit" (Damned), about corruption and Vatican's role in some unclear businesses in Italy; "Prima Guardia" (First Guard), against the Army; "Dinosauro" (Dinosaur), about old people governing since decades; and also "Firenze sogna" (Florence is dreaming), about the cultural decadence of their home town of Florence, in Italy.The heaviness of the topics threatened has nothing to do with melodies: all the tracks are enjoyable and very catchy, with enthusiastic rock rhythms. In fact, they evolved from the Latin and Gipsy sound that characterised all the previous Liftiba's works to a more mature, international rock sound. In 1999, Ghigo Renzulli (guitar) and Piero Pelù (voice) decided to split up the band: Pelù went solo with a so-so album "Né buoni né cattivi" (Nor bad neither good - the title says it all), whereas Ghigo went on with Litfiba and a new singer, releasing another so-so album, "Electromacumba". "Terremoto" is the best album they released in its genre (that is plan rock), but it's also the most commercial. Other similar artists include bands like Pearl Jam and Third Eye Blind (in USA), Indochine (in France), Heroes del Silencio (in Spain) and Pur (in Germany). If you like one of them, you will surely enjoy this Litfiba's album."
