"The title track of singer-songwriter Lisa McCormick's new album finds her marveling at the vast complexities of life, pondering an incalculable number of simultaneous events, and trying to seize a fleeting moment in time. "Somebody is seeing the ocean for the first time ... somebody finally reaches the front of the line, ... virginity is being spent ... rules are being bent." It's a smart, thought-provoking lyric, and one of several songs on the album that becomes more intriguing with each passing verse. Not the least of McCormick's gifts is her flair for writing about obsessive behavior, whether it relates to cars, sex, relationships or self-loathing, a task she accomplishes with plenty of wit and intellegence. "Bored," for example, concerns a character who laments a life so utterly uneventful that she finds herself envying people who grew up with undue duress or who know what the inside of a psychiatric ward looks like. At least they could report having experienced some drama in their lives. "Fall From Grace," another album highlight, opens with a woman looking back on a love affair as it slowly and imperceptively unravled: "There was nothing specific -- not a pivotal day/ Just the sneaking suspicion that you spent less time looking at me/ Than at looking away. There are plenty of other examples here of McCormick's inspired songcraft, and it certainly doesn't hurt matters any that she's blessed with a lovely voice, at once tuneful and expressive. In a field crowded with would-be philosophers, poets and storytellers, eachtoting a guitar, McCormick stands out as someone who's really worth hearing. by Mike Joyce"

"I had opportunity to see Lisa McCormick at the Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, New York. Friends of mine had raved about her, having seen her earlier in the year, and now it's my turn. She has written lyrics and music unlike any I've heard. I've never been so "interactive" while listening to a song! Lisa depicts many emotions, reaches deep into the soul, and occasionally hits the funny bone on the way. More of this world needs to be enlightened with Lisa McCormick's beautiful voice, wonderful guitar playing, and witty, touching words..."
A rare find and a masterfully written album of wit and music

"Lisa's CD titled RIGHT NOW, can turn a listener into puddy with her magical voice, lyrical verve and intelligent perspective. She obsesses on some of the most obsure and popular issues within her mind and the mind of society as a whole. Funny, sharp and vocal! Sex and Consequences for instance is right in harmony with today's contemporary society. It speaks of balance plus chaos when it comes to sex."
Great CD!

"I never would have known about this woman if a friend of mine from NY hadn't seen her in clubs and told me about her. Her lyrics are so wise and wonderful you wonder how this could be coming out of someone in her 20's! Melody line is great too. However, I'm not sure I would call this "folk" music anymore than I would Sarah MacClaughlan's."
