CD ReviewsLiquid Jesus- the colorful ones! Stephen Voss | 10/14/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "This was a band I first heard in around 1990 and immediately foresaw what I thought would be a glorious future! But somehow the rest of the world didn't see it that way. The eclectic blend of all the styles of music I hold dear somehow evaded the rock music loving public em-masse. Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen. The Holy Trinity in many circles, is how they would be categorized. These 3 major artists created the sound that defines all the music heard today.
The 5 young men that were Liquid Jesus, with Todd Rigionne at the helm, created a sound that for all practical purposes, should have risen to the top. The Cream. I can only think that the demise of LJ was due in part, to the whole Seattle Sound thing that captured the eyes and ears of a generation. Right when Todd and crew were supposed to emerge, the sounds of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and AIC and the rest, created a huge diversion and they got lost in the wake. Now, what became of Liquid Jesus? Who can say? I saw recently that Todd R. has a solo CD available in limited quantity somewhere online, and when I find it again, I plan to buy it. In the meantime, I will keep the heavy rotation of Pour in the Sky on my cars CD as well as at home! If you love the sounds of Jimmy Page and Hendrix, you are going to be pleased. if Queen's first 5 LPs were also among your favorites, than this is going to fill that void that bridges Queens epic music to Hendrix and Page's bombastic orgies of color and sound! Get it, you won't be let down!" |
