CD ReviewsA sad story of our time.... Da Peace Dogg | Hollywood, California - livin' humble | 07/05/2002 (2 out of 5 stars) "Poor Limahl, he could never catch a break. After fronting one of pop's biggest bands in the 80's, Kajagoogoo, he left the band to strike out on his own, mistakenly believing his dazzling fame would carry him to 1982-era Kajagoogoo heights. Boy, was he sadly mistaken. Limahl just never hit it big on his own, the Kajagoogoo label was too overwhelming. Limahl's voice on his solo stuff was comparable to stellar Kajagoogoo work, but without Nick Beggs to write the catchy songs, this stuff just doesn't measure up. See, Limahl is a singer, and a good one at that, but he just ain't a musician - and this record proves it. After this record, and others that Limahl tried on his own, he became nothing more than a Simon Le Bon wannabee. Then again, didn't everybody want to be Simon Le Bon!Well, I'll wrap this up by simply stating what everybody wants: A LIMAHL COMEBACK!! I think he has it in him, and if he teamed up with the right musical partner, I think the sky's the limit for this talented young man.GO FOR IT, LIMAHL!!!!" Almost perfect collection of his two 80s solo albums Daniel W. Kelly | Long Island, NY United States | 12/31/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "The CD label Disky sneaks these collections out of very rare music with little fanfare, so you have to keep an eye out for them before they are gone. This 16 track collection falls four tracks short of having Limahl's two solo LPs on 1 CD. Missing from his first album are "Tar Beach" and "Oh Girl." And from his second solo LP--produced by synth master Giorgio Moroder, the tracks missing are "Love Will Tear the Soul" and "For My Heart's Sake." What would have been nice is if Disky had left off a couple of tracks that WERE on the Best of Limahl/Kajagoogoo CD and included these tracks that have never been on CD instead. But hey, at least you get most of them here, and it's all the original recordings, unlike many of those rerecorded CDs Limahl has been passing off as his 'greatest hits' over the past few years.
This is a real treasure for collectors of Giorgio Moroder productions, but do realize that, other than Never Ending Story, the productions he did for Limahl don't have his trademark sound of that era. That stomping synth dance sound is exchanged for pretty cheesy 80s pop." |
