For over a decade, acclaimed Mexican-American singer Lila Downs has traveled the world, performing her dramatic and highly unique reinvention of traditional music alongside original compositions fused with blues, jazz, soul and African roots. Lila Downs y La Misteriosa en Paris Live à FIP is her first live recording, recorded in May, 2009 at Radio France Studio 105. Downs is well-known for
her texturally rich and diverse recordings, as well as highly dynamic live performances. The album seamlessly delivers the best of both worlds, brilliantly capturing the exuberant energy of Downs and her band s performances, weaving in traditional instruments such as accordion, harp, clarinet and trombone with driving bass and drums, electric guitar and infectious Latin percussion. The fifteen tracks on this powerful new World Village CD span six albums, from 1999 s La Sandunga to 2008 s Shake Away. From the carnival like atmosphere of Perro Negro or the rootsy blues of Minimum Wage, to traditional Mexican songs that audiences have come to love such as Paloma Negra, few artists can successfully navigate the terrain of such seemingly disparate music. But Downs always seems to get to the core of it, making it her own and bringing the audience along for an emotional and memorable ride.
