The Lewis Trio - Battango

"If you're a fan of Ivan Gonzalez (aka Melon) from his days with Isaac Delgado, check this one out. Ivan now goes by the name of Ivan Lewis, and lives in Spain. If you've seen the Gypsy music video "Latcho Drom", you'll remember how much the French Gypsy music segment sounds like Django and Stephane Grappelli. Ivan's brother Ricardo's violin playing is right out of that era of French jazz. So many other threads come together in this CD - Cuban jazz, timba, classical, funk. The tunes and the playing are all superb. The only other recent Latin jazz CD tha moves me this much is Tony Martinez' "Maferefun.""
