"This is the pinnacle of small combo swing music. They are as tight as a classical chamber ensemble, but with all the swing and creativity of jazz (not to mention incredible Prez solos). If you were to be marooned on a desert island with one CD, this might be the one."

"Agree with previous reviewers' 'excellent' ratings. This is truly excellent small group swing.



Despite feeling slightly 'shorted' by having alternate takes, resulting in only 7 real songs, the performances are superb throughout. Recording quality is much better than expected for a 1943 issue (beware: you can hear some of the scratches as this was obviously copied from a disc and the dynamic range isn't the best. Still, when you hear the performances, the imperfections in recording seem to melt away.)



Highly recommended for some deeply moving swing!"
