Synopsis

Album Description
Digitally remastered two fer containing a pair of albums from the Exotica/Lounge legend on one CD: African Jazz (1956) and Jungle Jazz (1958). Les Baxter was the founding father of Exotica, a variation of easy listening that documented the sounds and styles of the South Seas, India, and South America. From the early '50s, with the onset of international air travel, Exotica became a massively popular trend, making it possible for middle-class Americans to simulate an authentic travelogue experience in the comfort of their suburban homes. The music of Les Baxter is never gloomy - it is full of the adventure of life, the sounds of exotic lands and the free spirit of life close to nature. Cherry Red. 2010.

CD Reviews

Outstanding CD in STEREO!!
Stacy C. Burns | Spring Hill, Fl. United States | 07/24/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Outstanding CD in STEREO!! Plus five bonus tracks! Since you cannot preview any songs on the CD before purchasing it, I was concerned if it was in stereo or not. Well it is! I purchased Space Escapades a while back and was disappointed to find out that it was in mono once I received it. Now the bonus tracks are in mono which doesn't matter to me since they are bonus tracks."
Almost perfect
Elwood Conway | Frankfort, KY United States | 08/03/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The presentation is quite nice, but the first note or Ostrich Hunt, which is a brushed snare drum hit, is missing. Otherwise I would have given it a perfect score."
