CD ReviewsLeon sings Sinatra?????? Anthony Accordino | Massapequa Park, New York United States | 07/01/2002 (2 out of 5 stars) "Leon Russell has been on a born again crusade by releasing several cd's this year on his own label. His latest release "Moonlight and Love Songs" is another attempt to be MR. Versatility? It does not work on this one. Leon can do many things, he is a multi-talented musician and singer. After giving this cd a listen, you will see that he should have left the lead vocals to Tony Bennet. Leon is better at rock, gospel and blues and should avoid making cd's with pop standards and fake orchestras. Old time Leon fans are going to find this one hard to digest?" THE COVER'S CUTE Michael Butts | Martinsburg, WV USA | 05/30/2003 (3 out of 5 stars) "Leon and his mutt on the front is a captivating picture. Leon with his long white hair and the dog with its short white hair. Quite a combination. Too bad the CD falls flat. I love Leon's voice on songs like "Lady Blue" and "Back to the Island," and his incredible duet with his then-wife Mary on "Rainbow in Your Eyes." Many pop stars from our past are trying this venue of recording old standards: Rod Stewart had a hit with his; Boz Scaggs has done his "But Beautiful"; even Michael McDonald has an oldies remake out. But Leon just doesn't fit the songs on this set. They are magnificent songs; however, the arrangements are pretty standard and bland; overall, it's a disappointing collection. BUT it's still great to hear these songs again, so that's why he got the three stars!" Another Masterpiece from the MOSAT R Scott Phillips | 04/10/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Leon, his piano, a symphony orchestra. It doesn't get much better than this. Leon's voice is as smooth as silk on this fine collection of standards."
