Album Description

The fourth and final CD of The Lennie Niehaus Project includes all of the material from the 12'' LP titled I Swing For You, which has never been previously issued on CD. As bonus tracks, we have included the brilliant tenor saxophonist Bill Perkins' debut album as a leader, entitled On Stage. One of the most celebrated LPs of the West Coast school, the album is presented here in its entirety.

"This is the best of the 5 or so albums of "small - band " so called cool music issued under Niehaus' name in the late fifties, the others being on the Contemporary label.The writing is superb and the group of Kenton "ex-pats" really does swing more than usual. Neihaus' own playing is as good as you always expect , and Bill Perkins treats us to some wonderful solos in his usual " I love Pres " style. Don't miss this one !! It has always missed re-issue for some strange reason."
