CD ReviewsDivine Greatness...Definitely! 06/22/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "A fantastic collection of Black Ark-era Perry productions, with dub versions included in most cases, this collection shines out from other recent re-releases thanks in large part to the absolutely stunning cut "Stand Up." Eric Donaldson's shimmering vocal is thrust into the ecstatic stratosphere by a tranced-out echo-box percussion line. Total "in-the-red" white light territory, here. The version is no less devastating. All the other cuts are strong, too, including a bizarre Presleyesque crooner "So Many Ways" by Reggie Antonie. The lengthly set ends with a 26 minute interview with Scratch himself, revealing him to be more lucid that you might have believed, and just as mad as you'd always dreamed. Genius!" High Ranking Perry! candle_mambo | 10/24/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Let's start with the tracklisting: Disc One: 01. WOMEN & MONEY - DD Dennis 02. 10 CENT SKANK - Upsetters 03. RIVER TO CROSS - The Viceroys 04. SWEET TASTE OF MEMORY - Milton Henry 05. STAND UP - Eric Donaldson 06. DUB FA YAH RIGHTS - Upsetters 07. SO MANY WAYS - Reggie Antonie 08. SO MANY SKANKS - Upsetters 09. AFRICA WE ARE GOING HOME - Time Unlimited 10. AFRICA DUB - Upsetters 11. OH ME OH MY - Bree Daniels 12. OH ME OH DUB - Upsetters 13. TAKE WARNING - Ralph Haughton & The Ebony Sisters 14. WARNING OF DUB - Upsetters 15. SONS OF NEGUS - Jimmy Riley 16. KINGDOM OF DUB - Upsetters 17. TO BE A LOVER IN DUB - Augustus Pablo & The UpsettersDisc Two: 26 minutes of interview clips with Steve Barker & Roger Eagle on BBC Radio Lancashire (1984, 1986 & 1991).An outstanding collection of Black Ark killers ranging from bluesy skanks to shimmering love songs and spooky repatriation calls. This is all killer, no filler - double deadly tracks include Denzil Dennis' fantastic "Woman & Money", Eric Donaldson's amazing "Stand Up", the hypnotic "Oh Me Oh My" by Bree Daniels, and the sublime 10 minute long "To Be A Lover In Dub". The second disc contains 26 minutes of edited highlights from appearances Scratch did on Steve Barker's "On The Wire" on BBC Radio Lancashire in 1984, 1986, and 1991. To hear Scratch both calmly discussing his music and ranting Upsetter style is a real treat." Crucial Roots...Definately Adjua Dubb | Gaithersburg, MD United States | 10/01/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Lee Perry has put out so much material, its hard to distinguish what is going to be full proof authentic reggae straight from the Ark. No re mixes and overdubs of already released material here, no. Divine Madness is worthy of the 5 stars for each track is genuine, rare and gives definition to the word reggae. With a listing of whose who on the album, Eric Donaldson, Jimmy Riley, Augustus Pablo and many others, each track is accompanied with a Dub making for a well rounded album with rootsy and haunting production by Perry. One thing Perry understood and that is reggae is not "happy" music, its so dread, so very dread and he captures that on this compilation. Standout cuts: "Take Warning", "Sons of Negus" "Repatriation"."
