CD Reviews

The only CD with all his big solo hits

"This UK compilation contains all his big solo American country hits. These include the country number ones - Somebody's gonna love you, Going going gone, Dixie road, I don't mind the thorns if you're the rose, Don't underestimate my love for you, Hearts aren't made to break they're made to love and Morning ride. It also includes the song he is best known for in America, God bless the USA, and the song he is best known for in Britain, Wind beneath my wings.Lee only recorded Wind beneath my wings as an album track. It is an excellent version of the song that was originally recorded by an R+B singer whose name escapes me, but became a huge country hit for Gary Morris. Those versions were not released in the UK, so Lee's record company seized their opportunity. His recording was only a minor hit, but it was enough to gain him some recognition. The song was eventually a much bigger hit for Bette Midler, whose version is also brilliant. However, Lee's version does appear on various artist compilations in the UK at regular intervals.Based on the liner notes, this compilation includes one obvious mistake - they intended to include a duet with Barbara Mandrell, To me, but they actually included a different song, You've got a good love coming. However, this does not in any way detract from the quality of the album, as the replacement track is brilliant. If you want a collection of Lee's eighties hits, this is by far the best available. If you are only interested in his patriotic music, you should buy American patriot, which I've already reviewed. If you want that duet with Barbara, it can be found on one of her albums."

"Lee Greenwood's finest -- only as Lee can sing it. Great collection of music -- country and "cross-over". My personal favorites, "IOU", and "Proud to be an American, God Bless the USA". I highly recommend this CD."
