CD Reviews

Perfect for wining and dining

"I first bought this LP in 1978. Wonderful music played by virtuoso Almeida and beautifully arranged by Lex Azevedo (echoes of Nelson Riddle).Try it (as I did)with a date on the beach with the waves rolling in. Just perfect. Midway through, you`ll be harmonising with the music and the sea. My favourite is Distant Shores. It was a 1965 top 30 hit by Chad and Jeremy. Only found that out yesterday thanks to the Net. Here`s That Rainy Day and Bluesette are also outstanding tracks. A must have. Thanks to Japan EMI for this long-awaited first reissue on CD. I still think my LP yields better sound."
You must experience this guitar virtuoso

"More so than movies, music was meant to be experienced, not just heard.

I first followed Laurindo Almeida in 1967, with the LP of this album. "Distant Shores" was enough to make me buy it.

Thank goodness this CD became available, because I would have worn down the LP grooves on the Distant Shores track.

Music should be experienced, so I said. Can you imagine falling in love at Santa Cruz, Calif., after a day of surfing? The girl you have admired since 5th grade is there with a girlfriend. She always dated older guys; she was untouchable. This may be the last time you ever see her, having both graduated high school last Friday. You tell her everything you never had the nerve to tell her before.

She listens, blushes, then says we have the entire summer. Just then, Distant Shores plays on her transistor radio. This is a moment in time that will live on forever.

I treasure this CD, and I truly regard Laurindo Almeida as the patron saint of guitarists."
