Italian, Spanish, or English: Laura Pausini's edgy, electric vocals are some of the most vibrant in contemporary pop. The endearing diva has been around for more than a decade, but the 2004 disc Escucha found her enjoying ... more »a newfound musical independence and worldwide success. Yo Canto is a long-brewing project dear to Pausini's heart: a collection of Italian pop covers spanning her lifetime. As with most of Pausini's releases, the disc is available in Italian and in Spanish. Yo Canto veers from dramatic balladry to fiery rock moments, anchored by Pausini's swooping, powerful vocal work. Several songs will be unfamiliar to fans outside of Italy, but it hardly matters. Pausini makes every moment her own, from the triumphant title track to the bittersweet "Escribeme." She's joined by international rock star Juanes during the lovely, lilting "Mi Libre Cancion." And fellow Italian pop idol Tiziano Ferro joins in for a new take on his brooding 2003 hit, "No Me Lo Puedo Explicar." There are many moments of sublime loveliness here. In other words, just another day in the musical life of Pausini. --Joey Guerra« less

"I am Pausini fan, so my remarks must be taken in that light. Of course, originality is not a quality this album can have because its theme is Pausini's version of songs by other artists she claims to adore.
That said, while a few songs are boring, most are wonderful. and I confess I love her voice which is by turns lyrical and smoky and sexy.
Pausini's fans will not be disappointed. Others must like the sentimental style that is Italian pop music, which in the USA was passe by the eighties."
Outstanding CD - Her Best Yet

"I first bought a Laura Pausini CD ("The Best of Laura Pausini") about a year ago when I was building up my Italian music collection. I wasn't thrilled with that album or Laura though until I purchased her DVD Live 2001-2002 World Tour (A MUST HAVE!). After that I was hooked and now can appreciate her depth as an artist. She is a hard, hard worker, a perfectionist, and very gifted. She has since become one of my favorites. "Io Canto" for me is her best album yet. Every song on the album, though not written by her (which is normally the case) is a keeper and touches the listener on some level. One word of advise about Laura or any other Italian artist: Many record their albums in both Italian and Spanish versions ("Yo Canto" being the Spanish version in this case). I strongly suggest that you ALWAYS get the Italian version. Even though I speak Spanish and don't speak Italian (yet) somehow something gets lost in the translation."
Definitely Outstanding!!

"I'm a great fan of Laura Pausini. Every time she comes up with a new release her music and voice is definitely better and better each time. I have bought her album Escucha and I loved every single song in the album, so I went ahead and tried the Italian version Resta in Ascolto and it is so beautiful as well. Now I've got so addicted to Laura's music that I just recently boought her new album Yo canto in both versions. I don't really know how to express how much I enjoy her talent.
Thank you Laura for giving us your beautiful talent in every single song.
Don't ever stop singing because for me you are number 1 in the world."
Once again a masterpiece

"I adore Italian music and admire La Pausini in particular because I see her grow with every new album. Not quite a fan of her in her early years, I really started to appreciate her after hearing the beautiful" In Assenza di Te". Since then, each album is better than the previous, but I thought she would not be able to do better after "Resta in ascolto". "Io Canto" being a cover album, I consider it a real achievement that it has become such an excellent and personal piece of work. Great duets with Tiziano Ferro and others, beautiful songs like the title track and "Due", in short : a real gem !"
Love it!!!

"First of all: Don't expect a cd with Laura's compositions. Laura selected her favorite songs fromn different artists of all time and recorded their music. it's different from the other Laura's cds but it's as great. I love the versions of Cinque giorni, Non me lo so spiegare and Quando is so sexy and romantic. La mia banda suona il rock is an amazing song. Just buy it, you'll love it. It comes with the lyrics so you can practice your italian. Trust me, if you like Laura you'll love it, so buy it!"
