Dynamic live performance from a rising Scottish folk band

"This is a sizzling live album by the Scottish trad trio known as Lau (singer-guitarist Kris Dever, fiddler Aidan O'Rourke and accordionist Martin Green). Recorded in Edinburgh, this is the kind of live show in which audience members are scarcely given a moment to catch their breath -- accordion fans, in particular, will thrill to O'Rourke's playful, often challenging attacks. Although the other two guys are hardly slouches themselves, I would hazard to say that this is really mostly O'Rourke's show, and if you like crazed, mile-a-minute accordion music, then this album will not disappoint. This is trad music with an edge, although there are no concessions given to crossover sensibilities or pop fusions of any kind; the modernism is in their youthful, blasting power, and their enthusiasm and skill are well-displayed here. "I purchased this when my husband requested Celtic music not those chicks singing. This is the real deal not those overly produced Vegas like shows you see on PBS so often. We play this all the time and have really enjoyed it. If you are looking for authentic and not "lord of the blah, blah blah" pretty boys you'll love this music."
