"Latif Bolat lights a spiritual flame ... that is bright, warm and intense which originates from ancient Turkish musical roots. His voice is clear, crisp, and soothing. The music connects the listener to a spiritual depth perhaps they did not expect to reach ... at least ... not after listening to one CD. It happens subtley and unexpectedly. After listening, quietly, without distractions ... there arises a recognition and spiritual awakening. It arrives like a gentle breeze ... from where it comes, one does not know ... where it will carry you, you do not know. You really do not care ... the only thing that matters is ... it is there and you are aware ... for this, you are grateful. The mystical, transcendental and spiritual feelings which arise within the listener ... are priceless.
This particular CD consists of devotional songs from the Sufi tradition based on poetry by Yunus Emre and others. It also has folk songs from the Kurdish tradition and a classical song in the Hicaz makam. The baglama (Turkish lute) is played by Latif, other instruments are, violin, guitar, alto flute, ney (Egyptian or Turkish flute), darbuka (type of drum) and occasionally the piano. This CD is highly recommended for people who love traditional music of the Middle East and Turkey and wish to experience heightened feelings of awareness -- connecting one's own spirit with Spirit ... within. "Anyone with an interest in Middle Eastern music should get this CD. Seeing Latif Bolat live sparked my interest in this style of music and purchasing this CD sustained it. Now I play in a Middle Eastern music ensemble and I thank the beautiful melodies of this CD for my initial love of this music."
