CD ReviewsMellow backdrop, but not perfection 03/23/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "I purchased this double CD while studying in London. As the title would suggest, it's great for a late night party, conversation or chill session (I like listening to it while I'm writing), and it's an ideal sampler for trip-hop fans on the prowl for new music. Familiar (like Moby's "Porcelain," Fatboy Slim's "The Weekend Starts Here" or Groove Armada's "At the River") meets the lesser known (Kinobe's campy-but-cool "Slip Into Something...," Nightmares on Wax's elegant "Les Nuits," Faithless' "The Garden" or York's "Resurrection") with sometimes unusual results. Only a few tracks are either irritating or thematic duds (and they're fairly easy to catch), but most of the others are inspiration enough to turn the lights down low and relax. The mixing could be a little more fluid, especially when blending the technoish trip-hop and ambient sounds with aberrations (albeit stylish ones) like jazz legend Miles Davis' "Summertime." Overall, the compilation is uniformly "chill" and with some judicious use of the skip button it's an ideal musical companion for that quiet, half-lit time post-dinner, post-rave or post-nookie!" Perfect music for a late nite groove lica_sto | Los Angeles, CA United States | 12/06/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "This 2-CD set is amazing! Whether you're throwing a party and need some background music, or just want to chill out at home by yourself, this is the perfect cd to buy. I know that on some compilation cds you wonder why some songs were picked...or they don't go well together. NOT THIS ONE!! I looked all over at local record stores before finding it on amazon...it is really worth the extra money for the import price!" Cool CD lica_sto | 01/22/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Original versions of chill out favorites mostly from the past 10 years, but a few surprisingly old...you'd never know any of it wasn't made last year if you didn't remember it. I had no idea Art of Noise:Moments in Love was seventeen years ago! They don't have the artists listed when I'm writing this, so I have to list some of the artists here: Moby, Portishead, Groove Armada, Nightmares on Wax, Electribe 101, Roni Size, Bent, Coldcut, ROY AYERS, Chicane, Beloved, Orbital, Goldie...lots more. Worth the money if you need a break from Kruder & Dorfmeister and Air."
