Synopsis
Album Description This stellar trio recording features the solid double-fisted jazz of pianist Larry Fuller, along with two legendary sidemen: Ray Brown on bass and Jeff Hamilton on drums - 'An instant classic!' says NPR's Jim Wilke. Larry Fuller was the last pianist with Ray Brown's legendary trio. Brown said 'He brings a vitality - he swings hard and I like that.' The CD was awarded Northwest Recording of the Year by Earshot Jazz's popular vote, and Leonard Feather said 'Fuller achieved moments of quiet, chordal beauty.' Similar CDs

CD ReviewsMarvelous Aurpon W. Mitra | 10/29/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I had heard Larry Fuller on two previous CD's of the Jeff Hamilton Trio: "Live at Steamers" and "Hands On." I assumed this album would be great and I was right. I absolutely love the deliberate way Fuller plays. He's not giving you a flurry of notes for no reason. Every note is specifically chosen. In addition, Ray Brown and Jeff Hamilton are in fine form. Hamilton's drum fills and Brown's solos are always a joy to hear. The recording, however, does not capture the richness of Ray Brown's tone on the bass. I think other Ray Brown recordings are good for that. The selections are varied and interesting. Each tune feels distinct, which makes the entire CD that much more engaging. I highly reccommend this recording!" Jazz Piano Music Lover | Dallas, TX USA | 01/21/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "I attended a concert two nights ago with Larry Fuller on piano with the John Pizzarelli quartet. Larry was unbelievable on the piano. He IS jazz. It was fascinating watching his hands moving over the keys with lightning speed, yet in perfect sync and harmony. Could not wait to buy this cd. Wish he had more cds out there. He is a virtuoso. Am enjoying it now. Favorite pieces are Honeysuckle Rose (which he performed in concert) and Candy's Blues, which is his own composition.
However, all the songs are good. And if you like smooth jazz, you will like this cd. And of course, Ray Brown is always good. Easy listening!" |
