CD ReviewsHolland HC, the real thing baby. What CD's can do: total re Chris bct | San Diego, CA USA | 12/29/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I can't believe amazon.com has real punk rock for sale. They guys ruled back in the day. U.S. punx slowly learned about punk from other countries besides the U.S. and the UK and this was one of the bands who educated them. Fast, relentless, no metal sound at all. Pure punk rock, hardcore at its finest. Some of the band members went on to SEEIN' RED, a very nice sorta post punk band still pretty punk. As with most punx, real nice guys too. As with most European punx, I never met 'em (either band) but it's clear from their records and liner notes and interviews in punk zines in the 80's they had the classic Do It Yourself attitude, non-competition with fellow punk bands and a desire to make their own music without big music business gettin' its sweaty hands on it, morphing their music into something the masses could consume on the radio (re: make it slower and pasty and poppy). Nope, not for these guys. This is real punk rock. Got it? 75 songs. How many CD's on amazon.com have 75 songs? And it's not like snippets of songs. This is real punk rock in short blasts. Don't worry about gettin' the original 7"s and other vinyl and compilation trax. Just get this and blaze. BLINK 182 and RANCID and OFFSPRING and GREEN DAY are real nice guys and make real nice music. If you wanna hear high quality punk rock from Holland, early 80's version, get this. Really, I insist. I tasted good then, it still zings today. Trust me. I punked in 1978 so I'm old now (51) so this sorta real HC is a bit too much for my system (re: old body) to take but I still highly recommend it to you yoot. chrisbct@hotmail.com" Buckle up. John Roberts | Baton Rouge, LA | 06/02/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Not that anyone here has been drinking. Bandanas and boots/fast as you please/straight edge hardcore here girls and boys. Almost grind, in the sense of speed, but not quite. If you're into this style the blasts of pure energy will be easy to apperciate. If this is your first "punk" album after Nevermind the Bollocks you will be very very lost. However if you enjoy bands such as Deep wound, Septic Death, early DRI, Siege, Charles Bronson, Cryptic Slaughter or other mind numbing fast music...this is a winner. While this sounds quiet a bit like the bands above it has just a hint of stuff like anti-cimex, Moderate likvidation, Mob 47 etc. which really gives it a sound all its own The cons? Since this is a discography the recording quality varies, but if you listen to stuff along these lines it most likely wont bother you by now. Its a large dose of material (a good thing!), so you might wanna take a break as you might get burned out on it. " Most influential band of European HC? PB000001 | Belgium | 12/31/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "The original Dutch Anarcho Communist Straight Edge Extreme Noise Pioneers. Larm just might be the most influential hardcore band on the European Continent ever. Together with fellow Dutch outfit Pandemonium they came up with the winning combinaton of very short (under one minute) songs, blasts of noise, grinding speed, and simple, politically charged lyrics.
This is the hardcore sound that hundreds of underground bands were soon playing all over the world. It would also serve as the basis for another hugely influential style, grindcore. To put it simplistically, Napalm Death took the Larm concept, combined it with metal and so invented grindcore. The other pioneer grindcore band, Extreme Noise Terror, acknowledged this great influence, taking their name from some early Larm artwork. This compilation offers you no less than 75 fantastic tracks. A must for any anarcho punk/ hardcore/ grindcore/ crust/ extreme noise fan. Get it now!
