"It is a good introduction to the soundscape of Indian music. Lakshmi Shankar was firstly trained in Bharata Natyam, one of the oldest dance forms of India. It comprehends not only a wide range of movements and postures but also a balanced melange of rhythmic and mimetic aspects. The mimes can be really powerful. It has a devotional character that you can also find in this cd. Later she joined Uday Shankar's troupe. Through her marriage to Rajendra, Uday's brother she became part of the Shankar family and subsequently followed her musical training with the younger brother,Ravi, the great sitar player."

"Any of Laskhmi Shankar's recordings are worth getting. Her voice is clear and melodious, with a three octave range. This is a good introuduction. One the one hand, bhajans (songs of devotion) are easier for listeners who are less attuned to Indian Classical music. On the other hand, these bhajans do not fully show off the majesty and breadth of Lakshmi Shankar's vocal range. They do show off the feeling."
