Album DescriptionThe work's preliminary history extends far back into Neuwirth's Graz period. In 1974-75, an American female vocalist specializing in early music requested that Neuwirth compose a piece for tape and voice. The result was to become a forerunner to "Vanish"--even then, a three-part formal expansion had found a place in his thoughts. Due to the circumstances at the time, this was long to remain a latent wish. Then, in 2006, a commission to compose an ensemble work--resulting from an award by Erste Bank--gave the decisive impetus for Neuwirth to complete the two missing parts: one and three. In addition, on this disc listeners will find his String Quartet 1976 and the newly composed Seven Pieces for String Quartet.
