"Nobuo Uematsu, who has been the leading Final Fantasy composer, is nowhere to be seen in this OST. Instead, Kumi Tanioka takes all the credit. While her work on FFXI wasn't too inspiring, Crystal Chronicles seems to unleash her full potential. The soundtrack in general has a festive, Celtic feel that carries throughout. That said, every song has a familiar ring, which can get annoying if kazoos and whistles and strings aren't your thing. But all in all, a great piece of work that is a bit more upbeat and fantasy-laden than previous Final Fantasy tracks, though it is not nearly as compelling or moving."

"This album is a standout among Final Fantasy soundtracks. Why? Unlike most FF games, there was no tear-jerkingly emotional story in this game. Also unlike most FF games, the music here is played with ACTUAL INSTRUMENTS by an ACTUALLY TALENTED composer, Kumi Tanioka. So, while nobody is going to have an irrationally strong attachment to someone tinny-sounding MIDI song just because it was played when ____ died, this is also the only Final Fantasy soundtrack that people who don't like videogames "Actually Like". In short, it's good stuff.
All tracks are very sweet, medieval-sounding and evocative, with soem very unusual instruments. The flute used here, in particular, is super beautiful. My faves are "Moving Clouds on the River's Surface", and "Amidatti and Elenor Too", and "Goblin's Lair", as well as "Sleeping Treasure in the Sand". The two vocal songs are also quite wonderful. "Kazenone" is an excellent and catchy pop song, while "Starry Moonlight Night" is a wonderfully peaceful lullaby that has a very cool Rusted Root-esque jam towards the end.
In short, well worth the cost."
