"A wonderful mix of American bluegrass and Russian folk, Kukuruza manages to put together a very good combination of both for this album. Four of the songs are in English, including a respectable version of the song "Crazy" (made famous by Patsy Cline). However, as for the English songs, I think my favourite is the lesser known "Bird on a Wire" written by L. Cohen. One track is an instrumental, with the remainder of the songs in Russian.
Of these, I think #4 (Old Fiddle) is my favourite, a lively piece that will get anybody dancing. This album has tracks that range from melancholy to energizing, and that they can blend so many Russian and American folk traditions is a credit to the musicians of the group. However, unlike their other album offered here at Amazon.com, there isn't quite the "stand-out" tracks, that "Crossing Borders" has. I've listened to this CD many times now, and though I enjoy it a lot, when I look at the track list afterwards, I don't always make the connection as to which song is which, because without the standouts to serve as markers for the more 'forgettable' tracks, it's not always easy to remember what one has just listened to."
