"I'd have bought this CD just for the one song, The Silver Tongued Devil and I. Great, great song, and Kris's voice works perfectly for it. Still there are a lot of other great songs like Loving Her Was Easier, Breakdown, When I Loved Her, The Pilgrim, etc. Hard to find anything else like Kris's first albums anywhere. He has some really good stuff on other albums as well - I loved his half of the Songwriter soundtrack for instance - that are more electrified, but still great songwriting.

"Great CD,as with all his music,he paints a picture so clear that you can feel it and see it as if you were there. The Taker, being one, that I think we have all met in our life,Jody and The Kid,gives such a visual of them walking together and the love for each other that they had,and I think we all had a Billie Dee,in our past or in our present.Every song in this CD is worth listening to.Kris always makes you see and feel so deeply. He is a truly good man,and an amazing writer."

"I had this "album" on LP and 8 track (giving my age away) and loved every song on it. 8 tracks went the way of Beta and my turntable died of old age so I'd missed hearing that wonderful off-key, growly, talented voice. He might not have the greatest voice but he sure knows how to tell a story."

"This is the middle of a trilogy of great music from Kris Kristofferson. From Me And Bobby McGee thru to Border Lord, the man did nothing wrong, with probably his best lyric writing in his career, and this was in the 70's. Though none of his albums were particularly long, they were packed with quality, and at last I have managed to acquire this trilogy of stupendous song writing some thirty years later. When I first bought the vinyl versions I thought it couldn't get any better but to be able to listen to these albums on C.D. enhanced purity now is awesome, well worth the money and well worth the time it has taken. A must for any serious music lover."
