Synopsis

Kool G Rap?s influence on all New York gangster thug rhymers should be as noticeable as Yao Ming standing up?well, anywhere. Instead, he?s often as overlooked as Jennifer Lopez?s back-up dancer ex-husband (whatever his name is). The 5 Family Click of emcee?s featured here are his real life family. G Rap is the rap Tony Soprano with his wife Ma Barker, her brother Hammerz, and cousin Glory Wars along for the ride. Unfortunately, rap posse nepotism isn?t always the best thing (see Nas? QB?s Finest). On "I Die 4 U" and "Breaker Breaker," neither Hammerz, nor Glory really demonstrate why they should be considered capable emcee?s. Now Ma Barker on the other hand is truly G Rap?s female sound-a-like with a touch of Lil? Kim sprinkled in for good measure. On "Pimped Out" she raps "it?s strictly sex when I?m hittin? him/no love, no hugs, no kissing ?em," while on "I Am What I Am" she boasts that she?s "?like a pimpstress/might be your man?s mistress/y?all b**ches don?t handle your business." Yep, she?ll do you and then leave change on the dresser for you to catch a cab ride home. G Rap flips his trademark rapid-fire, lisp-heavy rhymes about the most clandestine of activities on "Get Da Drop On Em" over a catchy Freeway sample giving out solid instructions on how to peddle dope and pull heists successfully. Most posse records, like this one, suffer the same fate; too many filler emcee?s and rhymes. However, that?s not to say that crew records like Goodie Mob?s Soul Food don?t disprove this theory. -- Dalton Higgins

(4 out of 5 stars)

"KOOL G RAP IS MY FAVORITE RAPPER. He is the best period. If he farted on a record I would get 3 copies. One for the jeep, one to hide in the safe, and one for my wall. The Giacana Story (I know I didn't spell that right) was only disappointing for me because there weren't any real tracks that stood out for me. It was weird because it had guest apperances and still didn't blow me away. Production was weak, but the good thing about even a bad G rap album, is he always amazes lyrically. This is a dope album. The only thing it lacks is G Rap on every track, but it definatly gives me ammo when top 5 mc'z ever disscussions role around. I think the production is a little on the jock of the ROC, (I mean samples that are sped up to sound like the chimpmunks), but it is good. I'm sure that Ma Barkers lyrics if they weren't written by G Rap himself, were adjusted with his fine tooth comb, because she blows up EVERY Track she's on. The two other guys are aight, but if there down with G RAp then there down with me. If your reading this your probbley just afraid to experiance the pain of the Giacana stroy again. Hold ya chin up homey, G RAP is BACK, and he's got a new crew."
