CD ReviewsI know you, i'm sure i know you from somewhere radio atlantis | tha north of ireland | 05/28/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "some people, eh? give us a taste of what you're capable of, a vision of a future full of bright promise. and then what? nothing. what happened i don't know, but just call it another band who never got the attention they deserve and thus bit the dust (i presume, unless they're going in different bands etc)
on the face of it, this is what we can call 'average indie'. beyond that though this three-piece delivered a sound and intensity so often lacking from run-of-the-mill bands. highlights come thick and fast but the tracks i've singles out for special praise are opener 'now (smiling in the face of)', slow burner 'ellipsis', 'lies and bad advice', 'here's where i came in' and the epic closer 'a long road'. the last track is 7 minutes akin to tar's 'building taj mahal', closing in a welter of guitar noise and a bassist who's clearly given up on following the song structure and instead is plucking single notes, mostly brilliant. so that's it then, another band whose light burned all too briefly. b@stards - them for giving up, us for not catching on." |
