CD Reviews

The ultimate non-album compilation, Vol. 1
J. L. | 06/10/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"EXTRA Vol. 1 is truly the definitive KMFDM collection. It spans all non-abum records of the 1986-1992 (up to Money) era which means En Esch (the guy, not the track), Split, long lost recordings, first-time CD masters for some songs, and all the original artwork for all singles. The WDYKD and DBYT! mixes featured here are even better than the album ones. All Split versions are also here (The Apart version being my personal favorite), along with a lengthier More & Faster and great Rip The System, Go to Hell, etc. mixes.

Disc 2 may sound a little repetitive with this "Money/Bargeld/Money/Bargeld..." thing, but not that much, specially considering that the original Money single was organized that way, and the different versions are really worthy the time you put on them, so this is not a real drawback. The sound quality is, for any practical purpose, the same as the KMFDM classics collection released in 2006-2007, so it fits perfectly with those records.

If you are an Ultra-Heavy Beat fan, this is a must have, unless, of course, you are rather into 24/7 (I'd be but I don't have a vinyl player anymore and I'm not buying those records just to frame them :)

Highly recommended. I'm looking forward to Volumes 2 and 3."
