Synopsis

Album Description
Klaus Schulze's twelfth solo album was originally released in 1980 and received brilliant reviews such as the following "There is almost no-one who can hold a candle to him as a live musician performing on the synthesizer." The ever creative Klaus Schulze produced this remarkable live album consisting of 4 extended compositions recorded in Amsterdam 1979, Berlin 1976 and Paris 1979. At the time he declared that it would be his last live recording and the appearance of Crazy Arthur Brown on Dymagic was the highlight of the four command performances presented here. Sense is literally pulsating and captivating which includes very sharp and precise percussion work - the whole album is simply electronic music at its finest. The bonus track Le Mans Au Premier is taken from a concert at the Abbey L'Epeau near Le Mans in France on November 10, 1979. Klaus Schulze first attracted attention as a member of the German progressive rock band, Tangerine Dream. Following the release of their debut LP, Electronic Meditation, he departed for a solo career. Klaus' recorded work typically features extended pieces sometimes filling an entire album built around computer-generated synthesizers and other specially programmed electronic effects. Klaus Schulze remains a cult figure in the United States, where the bulk of his prolific output has until now been available only through the import bins. He is widely considered an avant-garde mainstay as well as a founding father of both the new-age space music and electronica genres.

CD Reviews

Very good, but with reservations....

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I love Klause Schulze. When I first heard Transfer Station Blue (Michael Shrieve) I was quiet impressed with the sound. Klause Sculze has an unmistakably cool sound and soon I heard his solo work.

This performance is great, particularly the first disc which contains Bellistuque and Sense. The drums on Sense really work well, and adds a nice organic flavor.

The bad part of this set is that I really wished it were mentioned here at Amazon that it was recorded with a portable radio-- for crying out loud. Apparrently these are the best tracks recorded by Klause in this manner as he toured. He only was interested in hearing how he performed and was not intending to release a live album. So no great care was taken in sound quality, and it's obvious here. For this, and for Albert Browns awful vocals, I can only give it 3 stars. Yes... I found Albert annoying, cheesey, self inovolved, and his voice cracks the speaker upon the more forcefull operatic thrusts of him.

But back on a positive note, Live is nice and long even when after deleting Dymagic from my playlists. It makes the room glow."
