CD ReviewsClassic Bill Your 'Free Form FM Handi Cyber | Mahwah, NJ USA | 12/13/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "On this 2003 album, King Crimson continue as a quartet-Bruford and Levin are gone. But where on The ConstruKction of Light the music seeemed a bit thin on rehashed, this is not a problem here.
Structually, the two are not that different, but on Power, the guitars are cranked on fuzz and this gives the band a fuller sound. This is evident from go on the amazing "Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With," a track that could almost be a Tool number. Belews lyrics are great--not for their wordplay, but for their subject matter. "Happy with what you have to be happy with/you have to be happy with what you have/to be happy/you have to be happy with what you have to be happy with." Abastract, but we all know what he means, becuase we are all in the same boat. The album has the rigorous workouts you would expect on any King Crimson album, particularly after Larks' Tongues in Aspic. These work between more song-oritented pieces--and little vocal interludes courtisy of Belew, and the album flows nicely. It never feels forced and it always feels Crimson. That can NEVER be bad." |
