A Breath of Fresh -and Cold- Air

"One could argue that the rock scene today is not exactly the best it's ever been. Some of the best bands of the past either have broken up, are releasing irrelevant albums(Smashing Pumpkins), or on mega-tours that only the Queen can afford to see(the Stones, and soon Led Zeppelin). In music these days, it is hard to find a well known band that is incredibly original; even some of my favorite modern bands I can admit are unoriginal whether it be at times or overall.

But this is not the case with one of my new favorite bands, Kill Hannah. I certainly have yet to find a band with such a cold, crisp sound as this that also has such a comforting feeling to them. The intro to the album "(Life in the Arctic)" is certainly a good definition of what the rest of the album will feel like. If you go outside on a winter day, play this album, and close your eyes, you will most likely feel like you are in a peaceful arctic location; but you are not freezing to death, you are just in the coolest you've ever been. That's truly what this album feels like: "cool".

Kill Hannah does an excellent job of keeping this "cold but comforting" feel throughout the album without making any two songs sound the same. For instance, one of the more rocking tracks on the album, "Love You to Death", is just as refreshing as, say, "Scream". But those are two of the lighter tracks off the album. It has a dark side to it, with songs such as "The Collapse" and "Lips Like Morphine". There is also a tiny bit of electronica thrown in the mix, but that is mainly evident in "Crazy Angel" and "Believer". This album is full of standout tracks, but one that stands out just a margin more for me than the others is "Black Poison Blood", a ballad that is probably the most romantic, and the most chilling on the entire album; it truly is my favorite.

This is the album that got Kill Hannah widely known, and it is certainly the right one. I sadly have not checked out "For Never and Ever" yet (yeah, stupid me) but I certainly will as soon as possible."
