"Kenny Wheeler is a marsterful player and composer and this CD is his most 'Wheelerish'. The beautiful, lyrical melodies of his are shown here at their absolute best. 'Nicolette' is wonderful, as are 'Past Present' and 'Present Past', and 'Kind Folk' is, in my opinion, his best composition of all.
I am writing this view so that people do not get the wrong idea about this amazing music from a reviewer who obviously doesn't understand this music. Don't take advice about what music to listen to from someone who couldn't hear that there was no pianist or drummer (I don't mean to be rude - I just want this album to be properly represented by those that understand it). And as for the lack of 'varied programming' - I agree. However, I do not see this as a flaw; I would not sit down and listen to this whole album at once. Look to other CDs if you want hard-swinging bebop.
I would also recommend 'Double, Double you' to hear Kenny playing with a bit more fire, or 'Gnu High', which is perfectly put together and is an absolute must for Jarrett fans, I find his playing on that CD to be the best I've ever heard from him."
