CD Reviews

Great, But Potentially Tedious
Jamie Jeffords | South Carolina | 04/18/2002

"I like Kenny Rogers. The Gambler is one of the first songs I ever learned all the lyrics to in my halcyon days of youth, so I liked the idea of getting all his classics in one collection--especially life. I was not dissapointed (most fans won't be), but I do have two complaints.Maybe it is just my CD skipping, but an entire verse of Coward of the County is missing. It seems like it was in the live performance, but not here. I didn't see the show this was recorded from, so I have no idea if something needed to be edited out, or I just have a bad copy.Second, the requests were interesting the first few times as were the ancedotes, but I find myself skipping through them now, which keeps me near the CD player the whole time. This isn't a CD to use for mood music. Ya gotta work at it!True fans of Kenny will really like this CD. Casual fans or those that want to try him out should get one of his studio recorded greatest hits albums instead."
Fine album

"This is a great album. If you already own several of Kenny's albums then this will go nicely in the collection. However, if you are new to Kenny Rogers, or only want a hit's cd, "ten years of gold" or one of the other hit's collections is better."
Mostly for the fans

"17 of some of Kenny Rogers' greatest hits performed live at a TV show in New York city. This is Kenny's first live CD release. Comments and introductions for each song provide this CD with interesting stories, and the informal atmosphere makes you feel almost as if you were there. Kenny Rogers sounds good as usual, and the material is excellent, but as a live CD it cannot compete with the original studio versions. Fans would surely appreciate this CD, though."
