CD Reviews

Great Music, Okay Remaster

"I bought this Kenny Loggins double CD hoping that the remastered version on BGO music would be a considerable improvement over the ancient U.S. copies that were issued back around the early 90's. I took a close listen and I found that the quality was good but it was a far cry from what I consider a great remastered CD. I have a few BGO CDs and the other ones do sound superior over the U.S. originals. This one just doesn't cut it. For a list price of $24.00, the sound better be amazing.

I'm not panning the music in any way. These are two fine 70's albums!! And, the quality is good, but I think the first reviewer, Dartanyan knew what he was talking about.

Dartanyan also mentioned that the track listing was off. That is true! My copy has a totally different listing on the paper slip on sleeve than what is on the CD. The CD does play as the original records, but he disc also has the wrong order printed on it. My copy lists "Celebrate Me Home" as the lead song then it goes to "Lady Luck". "I Believe in Love" is third and next is "Why Do People Lie?". The rest are out of order Too. Disc two starts out correct from the original record but the listing goes astray with "Down and Dirty" which the BGO copy lists "Somebody Knows" as the third song. It is all a jumble from there. I know that the one reviewer was telling the truth, I have no idea what the other reviewer was looking at. Either Dartanyan and I got a "BAD" or fake copy or BGO messed up on some things.

The bottom line is that the music is great and the sound is good enough, but do you want to pay $24 dollars when you can buy both originals on Sony, for $9 bucks each!!!

You make the call."
Two GREAT Kenny Loggins albums from 1977 and 1978

"I was so excited to see these two EXCELLENT albums released on CD, REMASTERED!!! BGO, "BEAT GOES ON" cd company from the UK is famous for their two-fers and they usually do a great job on remastering. I recently bought some Dan Fogelberg and Ozark Mountain Daredevils on their label and they were two-fers also. The quality was excellent. A definite upgrade from the USA standard issue copies. But, on the Kenny Loggins CD, I was not blown away on the sound quality. Actually, I was disappointed that I shelled out twenty bucks for this CD because the quality was so-so at best.

I put the cd to the test and compared it to the American "COLUMBIA" budget versions that I have had since the late 80's. These two cds you can still pick up for $9.98 or even cheaper at most cd on-line stores. I still have a pretty keen ear for an older guy, and I could not detect a difference between the two discs. I listened on 200 dollar BOSE headphones and there was no difference!!

So, in this rare case, BGO let the consumer down. Once again, the CDs are excellent, especially Kenny's first lp, "Celebrate Me Home". But the quality is just OK. Certainly not what we have come to expect on truly, well remastered CDs. One last note, the track listings on the back of the case and also on the discs themselves are way off. They are not in order with the actual playing disc. However, the tracks do follow the original order of the American CDs."
Another perspective

"I have to to disagree with the previous review by Dartanyon. I'm not sure how the product he recieved was so terrible, but the discs I recieved were completely different. The sound quality is excellent, and clearly remastered. The seperation and clarity of the mandolins, strings, and hand percussion are wonderful. The songs are in the order of the original CD, and in the order of the original vinyl album.

This album was one of my favorites of all time, and I have been looking and hoping for a remastered version for years. To hear it in this pristine audio quality is a real treat.

So, if you are a fan of this album, or of Kenny Loggins, don't be discouraged by the previous review. It is a much different product, trust me."
