CD ReviewsKenny Klein loosens up on third album 08/07/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "I was happy to find Kenny listed on the Amazon review list, as I've been a fan of his for the past three years. I usually am fortunate to catch one or more of his shows every year. The album MUSES is the third album of Kenny's I've owned and is easily the loosest feeling of the three. Kenny's music is based upon traditional music of the British Isles, but often introduces aspects of other musical influences; from early-American to playful swipes at Island Music. In MUSES Kenny sneaks in the bluesy GOTH GIRL BLUES (and the bonus track GOTH GIRL STREETCORNER BLOOZE). These tracks elicit particularly vivid images of the time I saw Kenny singing the song to a real Goth girl in his audience. I wish that I had as many pretty young groupies... I can't pick a favorite song on MUSES, they're all very well done and as usual Kenny's fiddle-playing is satisfyingly haunting at times, sprightly at other times, always evocative of some other place and time. I do enjoy the song CARDINAL because of the added nuance of the piano, which adds a layer to the performance which has unfortunately been unavailable at the venues I've seen him play. I believe that Kenny's previous two albums HIGH GROWS THE BARLEY and GOLD OF THE AUTUMN continue to be my 'favorites', and I recommend them highly. I recommend Kenny's live shows, and look forward to his next release." Folk Pagan Artist Rocks John P. Moore | Hartford, CT United States | 08/25/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "I've known Kenny Klein from the early 90's when he was recording in Buck's Couty in PA. This album is a good cross section of his work. A lot of it is based on modern rendition of english folk songs. Kenny plays as mean a fiddle in the studio as he does live. Good album for learning hertiage folk songs and modern social-political causes. Has the vibrancy of groups such as Steeleye Span etc."
