Originally released as A GENERATION AGO TODAY, this rare album features some pretty good music in honor of the king of the modern guitar, Charlie Christian. Christian classics when he was playing with Benny Goodman such as WHOLLY CATS, A SMOOTH ONE, and SEVEN COME ELEVEN all get excellent treatments here. Phil Woods has always been among the swingingest alto sax players (I love his dynamics and logic), and he is also a clarinetist with a unique approach (on WHOLLY CATS and MOONGLOW). A very enjoyable CD."
