"This cd is one of the unexpected pleasures of the year, and frankly I don't think anyone's really gonna top what these guys have done here. The song selection is outstanding, Kenny's guitar playing and Jackie's singing complement one another tremendously, and the production (by KBR and Steve Edmonson) is super. With the help of some of the best musicians in the Bay Area, the two nail down material ranging from the knockout Earl King opener, "A Man Needs His Lovin'" to Howlin' Wolf's classic "Who's Been Talkin'". The version of "Voodoo Chile" included here is simply a jaw-dropper. You've GOT to hear it. If I could think of one simple reason why this is a must-have cd (there are many), it would have to be the fact that both Kenny and Jacki are seasoned artists who, in the context of this album, are making music that deserves major recognition. They're live, and they're kicking. Don't wait to find out about "Soulful Blues"...."
Soul and Blues, this is it

"This CD is the best from both Kenny and Jackie Payne. Jackie's sound, gritty and sweet, make the most of the great material on this set. You have never heard a version of VooDoo Child done with this much soul.Kenny's sound is huge with excellent melodic ideas. The rest of the band rocks. This is souldfull blues like it ought to be."
