CD ReviewsThis quintet ranks with the best! jazz lover since 1960 | Tampa, Fl. and Franklin, NC | 12/05/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "I agree completly with James Hubbards' review. I truly enjoy this group, which may be the best jazz group playing straight ahead jazz on a regular basis during the period 1988-1991. This 1991 studio recording is complemented by another CD, the live recording "Live At Fat Tuesdays" recorded in 1988.(See my review) The musicians are the same, with the exception that bassist David Williams appears on this CD, whereas "Live" has the great Cecil McBee on bass. What a lineup of regular members: John Stubblefield, tenor; Dr. Eddie Henderson, trumpet; Victor Lewis, drums. The leader is among my all-time favorite pianist-Kenny Barron. Think of all the wonderful recordings he's appeared on. This CD gives him a chance to shine as leader. The group made another CD called "What If" with Wallace Roney on trumpet. I will seek out this CD, but meanwhile, enjoy "Quickstep.""
