"I was in Japan visiting family in the spring of 2006. While enjoying conversation and a snack, my cousin pulled out a CD and told me that he and his teenage sons enjoyed listening to this. I saw the cover and didn't really know what to make of it.
Once the disc was in and the music started to play, I heard this beautifully clear tenor voice which was soon joined by an acoustic guitar and some strings. The arrangements on "Soukana" are pure and organic and warm. It's adult pop at its Japanese finest. This disc was one of the top sellers in Japan in 2005 and Kazumasa Oda remains a popular live act. It's hard to level a fair comparison to a western artist as most of them call to mind cheesiness (Cliff Richard or Kenny Loggins during the middle parts of their careers or maybe even Dan Hill). Still, I suppose, his style fits into those categories but with a more contemporary feel.
It's good music and is summery and inviting. I'm really glad that I picked it up and was quite surprised that Amazon carried it. They previously listed it as "untitled", but we got that fixed.
