CD ReviewsAnother gem discovered...Smart club music with a twist Takis Tz. | InYourHead | 11/16/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Kaycee (three Germans -female singer- from Bremen) are relatively unknown even in Europe let alone the States. However, if they dont somehow don't achieve their breakthrough with this brilliant album i wouldnt know with what they will.
The most striking thing once you hear the first 2-3 songs from "Beg 4 more" is the singer's stunning vocal reseblance with Bjork. The influences are more than obvious but i find the overall result more impressive than (gulp!) Bjork's "Best of". I have to explain this. First of all, from a musical point of view, this is a "club record", one you wouldnt be ashamed listening to upon entering a club or even from the comfort of your own sofa. Intelligent and very creative beats that most of the time go the dark bath while maintaining a smooth trippiness all along. Kaycee's songs are also reminscent of Anne Clark's Remix album with the difference being that they have more of a pop appeal to them. And speaking of pop, this has got to be one of the premier pop albums I've heard in a long, long time. Funny I say that, because I've given up on pop music plenty a time in recent years. But "Beg 4 more" is special in a multisided way. The vocals are a massive treat as the singer knows how to sound ultra-sexy and dark at the same time (a combo that rarely fails) and the music isn't just sound decoration but a constant show-stealer if i can put it that way. Do get this if you're into bombastic and dark club music that doesnt insult your intelligence. Do get this if you appreciate the likes of Bjork or Anne Clarke. And do get this if you've also reached the threshhold of totally giving up on pop music. Your reward is guaranteed." |
