Synopsis

Product Description
Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away...the cults of psychoanalysis and psycho-babble were just a gleam in some misfits eye. Here, those pseudo-sciences are lampooned to delirious effect. The teaming of folk-cabaret chanteuse Katie Lee with lyricist Bud Freeman and composer Leon Pober resulted in the 1957 satirical masterpiece Songs Of Couch And Consultation. Numbers like Repressed Hostility Blues and The Will To Fail have, if anything, gained more traction in today's over-analyzed, over-medicated world. The LP received rave notices and even spawned a sequel, 1960's Life Is Just A Bed Of Neuroses. Remastered sound with exclusive liner notes, rare photos, ephemera and extra tracks. 35 track compilation first time on CD!

CD Reviews

It's such a thrill to fail.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This CD has a lot of songs by Katie Lee. It starts off with the cult favorite album "Songs of Couch and Consultation". This features funny songs about psychiatry written by Bud Freeman and Leon Porter. That album was popular enough to spawn a "sequel" called "Life Is Just a Bed of Neuroses". Freeman and Porter didn't have anything to do with that album; the songs were written by several different songwriters. The songs aren't quite as good as on the previous album, but they are still good for the most part. As if that wasn't enough, you also get as many songs from Katie Lee's album "Spicy Songs For Cool Knights" as they could cram onto the CD. This album featured Katie Lee's versions of traditional folk songs. Lots to like here."
