Come Here + A Thirteen-Song Home Demo

(1 out of 5 stars)

"Ms. Bloom would be considered a one-hit wonder were the one song for which she is known actually a proper hit. As is, her 15 minuntes of fame came as part of the soundtrack to the film Before Sunrise. Her sparse, intimate Come Here is captured beautifully in that film, and the song is the lead track in this collection.

Come Here is a haunting love song which well-utilizes Bloom's shrill, warbling voice. It is highly recommendable and well-worth hunting down. The rest of this collection is unbalanced and uninspired, to say the least. At least two other songs feature derivations of the opening riff of Come Here, and at least one, possibily two other songs actually feature the words "come here" in the lyrics. That's awfully formuliac, and a touch pathetic.

The poor quality production of this recording and the songs themselves are on par with what a coffee house musician might be peddling after a show. Further to this end, you should be warned that the album I received was actually a CD-R copy. The price tag is rather steep for this quality of product.

I wish that I could offer a better endorsement of this disc, but it really does not pass muster. The track list of the movie soundtrack was not terribly impressive, but I would recommend you go that route instead. I had hoped to discover a treasure of soulful folk tunes and support a deserving unsigned musician, but instead I received a poorly recorded, half-hearted, and generally unlistenable collection of songs."
