Absorbing Content, Rotten Presentation

"As an introduction to Kate Bush, THE WHOLE STORY offers solid song list from the early stages of her career (I know, I know, no anthology is perfect, and clocking in at just under forty-nine minutes, the disc obviously has room for much more). It's a shame, however, that EMI has offered such a no-frills presentation of this material. The sound lacks the warmth one would expect from a more contemporary mastering (the disc still has the analog mix and does not exploit the possibilities of the CD format), and rather than a fact-filled booklet, the album jewel case contains only a folded blow-in sheet that contains no liner notes at all. One would expect EMI to showcase this Kate Bush primer with more care, at least directing new listeners to more of her work. The songs get a five, the package gets a one, and the average is three."
