Synopsis

Product Description
KARL SANDERS, accomplished solo artist and the driving force behind South Carolina s Egyptian-themed death metal titans Nile, will release his sophomore solo album on April 14th through THE END RECORDS. Saurian Exorcisms, is Sanders magnum opus and every instrument present, including percussion, was performed by Sanders himself.

Sanders influences are more varied and far-reaching than Nile fans may suspect. What I ve been trying to do is move away from strict Egyptian kind of influences and incorporate a broader range of inspiration. The music I m making is not strictly traditional Egyptian music. I borrow and steal from the traditional music of many different cultures. There s some Tibetan stuff, some Indian stuff, some Arabic stuff, and so forth.

"I'll keep this short. This album is like the Nile album intros/interludes with saz and the female vocalist. It's Arabian or Egyptian music run thru a somewhat westernized song structure filter.Keep in mind that these are NOT faithful interpretations of classical Arab/Egyptian music traditions.Strict classical traditionalists will probably shun the album as too western or "new-agey".

The music is pretty awesome I gotta say!The songs usually come across as chant-like with the vocals,a steady drum beat(similar to a pow-wow-sounding drum),saz that can get amazingly technical at times, and a little bit of keyboard help here-n-there that isn't distracting and lends itself well to the ambient feel.Basically it's a full album of those Nile intros and interludes. My only complaint is that the songs feel a bit short sometimes even though they are usually more than 3 minutes long.Maybe that's because I'm used to hearing the classical forms of this type of music which are usually long, like Indian ragas.Would've been interesting if this album was only 4 songs spanning 80 minutes but it works they way it is too."
Non Metal Heaviness!!!!

"Wow. The first foray into the atmospheric music genre that karl Sanders put forth was good but this is just so heavy for something that isn't metal. I read an interview of Karl one time and he stated the he believed if one was to give tribesmen Marshall stacks a guitar and some distortion they would make mind blowing heavy metal. In reverse karl makes mind blowing and heavy tribal music. If you enjoy music with out a care for boundaries buy this and be amazed."
