CD Reviews

The Quality You'd Expect From Hed Kandi
dimitriis | 06/01/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"What can I say about Hed Kandi and Mark Doyle. They are unstoppable. Once more the artistic and versatile Hed Kandi label delivers with a compilation full of disco anthems (some old, some new). I believe that this Disco Heaven is slightly better than 02.02 although both are essential for any disco/funky house collection.
CD1 starts off with Mind Influence's "Best Part", the ideal way to start a funky compilation. It is very difficult to pick up favourite tracks but some well-worthy tracks on this disk are "Keep On Rising", the awesome Joey Negro remix of "Mysterious Vibes", the brilliant "The Light" and "Deliver Me", without saying that the rest are not good.
CD2 is the winner in this compilation. All the songs are really good. Fuels' "Let Yourself Go" is very similar to the ubiquitous Room 5's "Make Luv", but as Mark Doyle indicates in the sleevenotes, the Fuels track was released two years earlier than "Make Luv". Another absolute classic here is the famous "Outro Lugar" by Salome De Bahia. If you're a newcomer to the Disco side of Hed Kandi, I suggest you pick up Disco Kandi 1 first, which is a compilation of timeless classics. Then go for the amazing Disco Kandi 5 and then buy the rest in any order you like.Disk 1: 4 stars
Disk 2: 5 stars"
