CD Reviews

Greatest Power Pop" concept album" ever
Dano | New Jersey USA | 08/20/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Michael Quercio and fellow bandmates have unleashed the classic album all fans of the genre have anticipated for years.Always loved the first e.p.w/"Angela Davis Hair" but This CD contains songs just as excellent such as "Do You Remember". And the whole album holds together perfectly with no filler.Plus the song names are the craziest since Captain Beefheart and Arthur Lee would do us all favors by sharing their wonderful music-such as "You Are Wise in Your Conceit,O'Beautiful Woman of the Tartars".Don't know how they expect to sell many albums with the crazy titles they give them(smart people will know but the dummies probably won't).An album that will restore your faith in rock n roll and all good things.Don't miss it!"
The Restoration of Pop Music Sensibilities - for Grown-Ups!
Lina Litonjua | San Pedro, CA United States | 10/09/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

""The Restoration of Culture After Ghengis Khan" is the third release by The Jupiter Affect - Michael Quercio's latest musical endeavor.A self-described thematic "concept album", "Restoration" nevertheless manages to produce several radio-worthy tunes.

The CD opens with "Ceremony", a musical introduction very reminscent of Todd Rundgren's "RA" album. But just when you start wondering, 'what's all this then?', "Genghis Khan Blues Theme" kicks in with a powerful beat, scorching guitar, AND catchy melody - a deadly combination that'll have you playing air drums/guitar and singing along in no time flat! Just as you are recovering from that aural assault, you get "Do You Remember?", which upon first listen reminded me of none other than prime Neil Young material. All subsequent listens merely confirm that initial impression, and this, along with "Ghengis Khan Blues Theme" would, in an ideal world, become mainstream radio staples. Not that there's anything mainstream about them - the material is far beyond anything conventional radio is playing these days. The rest of the album continues along these unconventional and melodic lines, shifting seamlessly between quiet, introspective introductions and guitar explosions. Most notably with "Atop a Greying Sky", "Damascus Rose", and "Above The Ground" - a triple threat - one can hear the 70's guitar-hero influences, reinterpreted in a new and fresh way. While this is not an CD of lightweight pop tunes, there is no escaping the pop label - as I interpret it, melodies and cleverness performed with heart and soul. What you don't get is sappy pablum - just gritty, catchy, GOOD pop music that you won't soon forget.Jupiter Affect has done nothing but improve with each subsequent release, and this one, (featuring new members Brad Lindsay and Erik Trickett, as well as the erstwhile Christopher Charles Van Bruckner on drums) certainly showcases Quercio's ageless falsetto voice and solid songwriting abilities to great effect.Do not hesitate - get your culture NOW!"
