"Looking at the pics of singer/bodybuilder juliet on her debut release "rogue amazon" (Rogue Amazon Entertainment) it looks like she needs a man about as much as a fish needs a bicycle. She's black, she's buff, she's beautiful. Her husky, rich voice and her clear elocution brings her alto immediately into diva territory. The first cut, "Rogue Amazon," opens with the solo lyrical intro "no place for my spirit from birth/ no place for the power I deserve/ no, it's not that I want to be a man/ want to be the strong woman that I am..." Then, juliet, Magic, and the band commence to let it rip, letting us know that the Amazon spririt is alive and rising again. Talk about a powerful anthem for women... Right on the nose, kids! Both danceable mixes are chock full of cool horn lines, funky scratches and wall-of sound backing vocals. Excellent listen each time, with new musical treats to discover each time around.For that cut of fierce independence to be directly followed by the remake "I Need a Man" brings me an ironic smile. Her opera-like diva delivery must be tongue-in-cheek, and more fun still when the chorus comes in and blasts its punctuations. Perfect aim for the boys on the dance floor, no doubt.The three mixes of "I need a Man" get progressively hotter, with my favorite being cut three, the Poundboys Naked Mix. With the discipline juliet must have to build such a formidable body, I'm sure we'll be hearing more music soon from juliet and her crew. This Amazon will rise again. Viva diva juliet!"
