Decent Song for a Greater Cause
Mark Arnold | Saratoga, CA | 12/29/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Julian Lennon puts out his first release in almost a decade. "Lucy" is a tribute to the girl that inspired The Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", even though some wags still feel that it was LSD. Here's the proof: a reproduction of the original drawing by Julian Lennon is included with the disc and in some cases, Julian's autograph. My copy unfortunately did not have the autograph. As for the music, it is very pleasant and open to repeat listenings. However, those pining for the John Lennonish-type vocals that graced Julian's first couple of albums will be sorely disappointed. Julian has a fine singing voice, but no longer any of the nasal quality that his father had. Overall, not the best material Julian has ever done, but far from the worst.

As far as the greater cause is concerned, the real Lucy died recently of Lupus and royalties from this release will be donated to Lupus research."
"Lucy" is a wonderful song for a great cause.

"James Scott Cook & Julian Lennon did a wonderful job on this EP. I love the song "Lucy" and can't get it out of my head. Both the full band version & acoustic version are just fantastic. I am in the belief that if a music artist can play an excellent acoustic version of their song, then it shows just how talented they truly are. And they did just that. In my opinion, both are very talented musicians & music writers.

The additional two songs on the EP, "Sober", which will be on James Scott Cook's album due out this year, & "Beautiful" by Julian Lennon, are also just wonderful.

If you love 80's music, which I have been noticing the 80's sound is coming back, you will definitely love James Scott Cook's, "Sober". It's written with an 80's style but with a fresh, modern sound. Hearing both "Lucy" & "Sober" I am definitely going to get a copy of his new album when it's released.

Julian Lennon's "Beautiful", which will be on his upcoming album, "Everything Changes" due out this spring, is just that...beautiful. I absolutely love it! Julian has really matured in his writing abilities as each album just keeps getting better and better. Therefore, I'm really looking forward to his new album as well. His album "Photograph Smile" is definitely one of my favorite albums by anyone & I have a feeling "Everything Changes" will also be added to that list.

This is definitely worth the purchase, not only for the great music, but also because the proceeds are going for a great cause. The money is being donated to The Lupus Foundation of America & The St. Thomas Lupus Trust in the UK to aid in Lupus research."
Bland.

"I really wanted to like this little disc: Julian seems like a decent man with at least a dollop of his father's musical gifts. Plus, the title song has a great back story, and a portion of the proceeds go to a good cause. Unfortunately, "Lucy" is bland. It just kind of sits there, inert, not really going anywhere. Come on, Julian -- a little more vigor!"
