"A piano accompanist once told me that there were a lot of young clarinet players out there, but there were only a few of them good. Unfortunately, what she said was true. But this teenage clarinetist, Julian Bliss, is sure of the exception. Although he was very young when this CD was recorded, he showed tremendous talents and artistry in his playing. It is rare to find a wind player like him who is so mature at such a tender age.
He was born in the UK, and came to the US for his clarinet professional training in the Indiana University. He was too young for the regular degree program in IU, he got an Artist Diploma instead. He then went back to Europe for more study.
In this CD, he recorded Poulenc's Sonata (1-3), Andre Messager's "Solo de concours" (4), Jean Francaix' "Theme and Variations" (9), Luigi Bassi's "Concert Fantasia on Motives from Verdi's `Rigoletto'" (13), and more.
The recording quality of this CD is excellent. Highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys clarinet playing.
